- From the airport
- İzmir Adnan Menderes (ADB) is the gateway, about an hour away — a direct train (İZBAN plus a connection, or a regional service) or shuttle bus is cheap and easy; taxis are faster but pricier.
- Ephesus site shuttle & taxis
- Ephesus has two entrances roughly 3km apart; walking between them through the ruins is normal, but a taxi or dolmuş can drop you at the upper gate to walk downhill, which is easier in heat.
- Dolmuş
- Cheap, frequent minibuses run from the town center to Şirince (15 minutes), Pamucak beach, and the House of the Virgin Mary turnoff.
- On foot
- The town itself — the castle, Basilica of St. John, İsa Bey Mosque, and Ephesus Museum — is entirely walkable and compact, one of Selçuk's biggest appeals over the bigger resort towns.

- Ephesus has no shade and gets seriously hot midday — a hat, water, and sturdy shoes for the marble streets matter more than in most sites in Türkiye.
- The House of the Virgin Mary is an active pilgrimage site for both Christian and Muslim visitors as well as a tourist attraction — modest dress and quiet inside the small chapel are expected.
- Bargaining is normal at the Saturday market and souvenir shops, less so at fixed-price restaurants.
