- Cheap Hiace vans cover the town and nearby beaches like Praia da Laginha for 50–100 CVE — ask your guesthouse which stand to use since routes aren't marked in English.

Do I need a visa?
US, UK, Canadian, and Australian citizens can enter visa-free for up to 30 days, but everyone must complete the mandatory online EASE pre-registration (ease.gov.cv) before flying, providing passport and trip details and paying the Airport Security Tax (TSA, ≈ 3,400 CVE/$31) during the process. Do this at least a few days before departure — it's checked at boarding, not issued on arrival.
How many days do I need?
2–3 days lets you properly experience downtown, the waterfront, a live-music night, and a day trip to Praia da Laginha or across to Santo Antão's mountains via the short ferry. Music lovers or Carnival visitors often stay longer.
Is Mindelo easy to combine with Santo Antão?
Yes — it's the classic pairing. Fast ferries run multiple times daily between Mindelo and Porto Novo on Santo Antão (about 1 hour), making it easy to base in Mindelo for nightlife and do Santo Antão's dramatic hiking as a day or overnight trip.
